Short Story Collection Giveaway

And the winner is . . . Jes H! Jes, please e-mail me your address ( and I will order your new copy of In Other Rooms, Other Wonders right away.

Thanks to all of you who entered!

It’s no secret to those of you who read this blog regularly that I am a lover of short stories. It is amazing to me that an author can imagine an entire world in so few words, and then create that world for his or her readers. It is incredibly difficult to do – I know, because I’ve struggled so unsuccessfully with this format for so many years!

Fiction Writers Review” has declared May to be “Short Story Month,” and bloggers are participating in The Collection Giveaway Project. The idea is to post an entry on our blog of a short story collection that we’ve loved. One lucky reader who writes a comment to this post will be selected on May 31 to receive a copy of the collection.

Because I’ve already blogged about several short story collections, I’ve decided to let you review my posts and choose the title that you would most like to receive. On May 31, I will make a random selection (names out of a hat) for the winner.

The collections and posts are the following:

If you’re the winner, you may choose a brand new copy of any of these – or the “One Story” subscription – so please take a minute to look at the links and leave a comment letting me know your choice.

Good luck!

  1. Jeannie,

I’m not sure if I’m doing this correctly but if I win, I would like Full Dark, No Stars by Stephen King.

    • Yep, that’s all you need to do. So far the odds are in your favor! 🙂

  2. Hi Jeannie,

What wonderful collections! I love your description of “A Spoiled Man” as “able to appreciate what is undeniably a hardscrabble existence – a Middle Eastern Candide.” Would certainly enjoy a copy of In Other Rooms, Other Wonders by Daniyal Mueenudin if I’m lucky enough to win.

Thanks for your reading and great reviews, Jes

    • Great choice, Jes! I loved this book and now, as it appears that tension with Pakistan may escalate, I’m grateful to have a view beyond the politics and be able to remind myself that people are people. This collection is a gem in both the literary and human sense.

  3. Jeanie, thanks so much for taking part in the Collection Giveaway Project. I’m a big Munro fan, but I haven’t yet read Too Much Happiness. Would love to have the opportunity to remedy that!

    • I love Munro, too, and thought this was a great collection! If you’re a Munro fan, this is a great choice for you!

  4. So torn! TC Boyle or the subscription…………………………

    I’m going with the subscription!

    • It’s a gift that keeps on giving! I LOVE One Story!

  5. Thanks for this giveaway! I actually have a subscription to One Story (Ethan Rutherford is one of my favs!) and read Full Dark, No Stars, so I would want Too Much Happiness. It’s been on my list for a while now. Thanks!

    • Munro is just the master (mistress?) of short fiction. Thanks for entering the Giveaway!!

  6. Wow! All the collections seem fascinating, though if I get a chance I’d pick Stephen King because…
Well, he’s Stephen King. His books make me stay up nights and his short story collection, “Nightmares and Dreamscapes” was quite a view-changing book for me. 🙂

  7. ‘Nough said! Who doesn’t love to be scared by a master storyteller?

  8. Wow is right — I would be pleased to read the work of any of these great writers. I already subscribe to “One Story” and have read lots of good stories in pamphlet form. And T. C. Boyle–well, I am a big fan. His story “Hopes Rise” is in Solace in So Many Words.
